Admitted to the Quebec Bar in April 2019, Miguel Huamani Mendez holds a law degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
He is the founder and director of the law firm HULI Avocat Inc.
Before founding the firm, he practiced for five years at a well-known law firm, where he gained solid experience in immigration law and refugee protection. Afterwards, he co-founded and co-directed Kame Légal Inc., where he further expanded his experience in the field of immigration.
His commitment to migrant communities began long before his legal career. During his studies, he worked as a cultural facilitator in a multicultural community center in the Saint-Michel district of Montreal, where he worked with children and families from Haiti, Mexico, Colombia, India, Algeria, and elsewhere.
He himself arrived in Canada as a child with his family and went through the difficult refugee claim process, a formative experience that gave him deep empathy and a desire to defend those facing similar situations. The rejection of his own family’s asylum claim was a defining moment that shaped his professional commitment.
Today, Mr. Mendez brings this personal and professional experience to his clients with rigor, humanity, and determination. He is a member of the Refugee Committee of the Canadian Association of Refugee and Immigration Lawyers (CARL), as well as a member of the Quebec Association of Immigration Lawyers (AQAADI) and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL).
